A Big Journey Begins with a Little Step
In Reception and Key Stage 1 each child participates in a daily discrete phonics session lasting 15 minutes. Follow-up work will also be planned in during English lessons through the week. Any child in Key Stage 2 that will benefit from these sessions will also be included. The children are organised into small differentiated groups of on average 10 children per group.
Staff use the Letters & Sounds scheme to plan the children's learning, through Phases 1 - 6, with the younger children learning their initial letter sounds through using the Jolly Phonics actions as an aid.
Parents are kept informed on which sounds their children are learning through Class 1's outdoor notice board, termly parent newsletters, phonic booklets and by attending Learning Journey sessions.
