In Reception and Key Stage 1 each child participates in a daily discrete phonics session lasting 15 minutes. Follow-up work will also be planned in during English lessons through the week. Any child in Key Stage 2 that will benefit from these sessions will also be included. The children are organised into small differentiated groups of on average 10 children per group.
Staff use the Letters & Sounds scheme to plan the children's learning through Phases 1 - 6, with The Jolly Phonics actions as an aid to learn the initial letter sounds and phonemes.
Parents are kept informed on which sounds their children are learning through termly parent newsletters, phonic booklets and by attending Learning Journey sessions and Spotlight events in school.
We are really proud of our phonics results!! Please click below to see a letter from the Rt Hon Nick Gibb, Ministry of State for School Standards.
