Design and Technology Curriculum Overview

At our school, we follow the Kapow Primary long-term plan for Art and Design and Design and Technology, offering a rich and balanced curriculum from EYFS to Year 6. Pupils alternate between A&D and D&T each half term, ensuring they experience a wide range of creative and practical learning opportunities.

Art and Design lessons focus on:

  • Drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, and craft.
  • Developing artistic identity through sketchbooks and idea generation.
  • Exploring art history, techniques, and critical thinking.
  • Building oracy skills through discussion, critique, and presentation.

Design and Technology lessons include:

  • Structures, mechanisms, textiles, electrical systems, and cooking.
  • Designing, making, evaluating, and refining products.
  • Applying technical knowledge and problem-solving.
  • Enhancing communication through collaborative design and feedback.

The curriculum is carefully sequenced to ensure progression in skills and knowledge, with stand-alone lessons available to enrich learning. Pupils are encouraged to express themselves, think creatively, and develop practical skills that prepare them for future learning and life beyond the classroom.
