History
At Stanton Primary School, our history curriculum aims to cultivate curiosity and critical thinking, enabling pupils to develop a broad and meaningful understanding of the past and to approach learning as historians. We want pupils to become confident investigators who question evidence, appreciate multiple perspectives, and create thoughtful, informed interpretations of the past. At Stanton we aim to build pupils’ awareness of how history shapes identities, cultures and communities over time. The goal is to inspire them to become reflective, active citizens who can draw on historical understanding to make sense of the present and contribute thoughtfully to the future.
Our teaching enables pupils to:
- Develop secure knowledge of Britain’s history and its interactions with the wider world.
- Understand key aspects of world history including ancient civilisations and empires; changes in living memory and beyond; and the contributions of significant individuals.
- In addition, pupils are taught the principles of historical enquiry and learn to formulate and respond to insightful historical questions.
